Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Shift: 1st Shift
Location: The Specialty Mfg. Co. – White Bear Lake, MN
Position Description:
- Provide engineering expertise on assigned projects. Manages development activities, functions as a team leader and engineer on assigned products.
- Activities relate to development of product designs that meet end user needs and quality expectations (function, cost, timing, reliability & safety).
- Develops products and product requirements.
- Assist with technical capabilities to produce and maintain products.
- Exempt position that reports directly to Director of Engineering.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage product design projects, using technical abilities, to generate products that are highly reliable, manufacturable and marketable, on a timely basis per planned schedules.
- Prepares engineering documentation and is responsible for the effectiveness and accuracy of drawing, bills of materials, and other written & verbal communication to specify product requirements.
- Creates and revises product designs & drawings using CAD tools.
- Develops, with Director of Engineering, priorities, plans and schedules for timely execution of projects.
- Coordinates multiple design assignments according to appropriate priority
- Maintains an awareness of Company products, technical innovations and processes, constantly improving ability and knowledge of engineering and scientific developments.
- Completes and documents design analysis to validate designs
- Maintains effective communication and effective working relationships with fellow employees.
- Any other duties reasonably similar and related as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in engineering preferably Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- Three to ten years of experience as Design or Project engineer in manufacturing organization.
- Understanding basic design principles (machine design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and economics).
- Thorough understanding of design drawings, including GD&T.
- Understanding SPC, DOE and FMEA.
- Effective utilization of Solid Works, Microsoft Excel & Word, MRP and software tools.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good analytical skills.
