Position:     Engineering Technician
Shift:             1st Shift
Location:    The Specialty Mfg. Co. – White Bear Lake, MN

Position Description:

  • Performs hands on testing of products in support of development, conformance and support data.
  • Designs and validate mechanical testing fixtures required for product testing.
  • Evaluates results from testing and helps to determine acceptability of data.
  • Assist with technical capabilities to produce and maintain manufacturing effectiveness.
  • Participates in problem solving related to non-conforming materials and product returns.
  • Position reports directly to Director of Engineering.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares test results and analyses that is effective and accurate.
  • Creates and revises reports and documentation using spreadsheets, graphs, memo/letters and CAD.
  • Supports manufacturing activities by helping to generate processes & procedures that are reliable, repeatable, cost effective and in a timely bases per planned schedules.
  • Works with minimal supervision on assignments that are moderately complex.
  • Develops, with Director of Engineering, priorities, plans and schedules for timely execution of tasks.
  • Coordinates multiple assignments according to appropriate priority
  • Becomes familiar with and maintains an awareness of Company products and goals.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Two year or better degree in mechanical, engineering, industrial or similar technology, or equivalent understanding of equipment and materials

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Three to ten years of experience with mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding basic design principles (machine design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and economics).
  • Thorough understanding of design drawings.
  • Awareness and some understanding SPC, DOE, FMEA & SPC.
  • Effective utilization of Microsoft Excel & Word and manufacturing enterprise software.
  • Use of CAD (Solid Works) a plus.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills
