Position:      Assistant Production Manager
Shift:             1st Shift (M-F 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
Location:     The Specialty Mfg. Co. – White Bear Lake, MN

Position Description:

The Assistant Production Manager is responsible for managing and evaluating up to 35 machinists, daily coordination of job packets distributed to machines and daily job assignments for available machinist resources.  The Assistant Production Manager will also assist in identifying production problems that impact schedules and requesting proper maintenance and manufacturing engineering resources to address issues in a timely fashion.  This is an exempt position that reports to the Plant Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist Plant Manager with the execution of the master schedule- Organize & schedule work assignments.
  • Assist in analyzing, development, maintenance and implementation of plant layouts for material flow.
  • Provide Input to create, document, and maintain efficient manufacturing methods and time standards.
  • Provide input to the master scheduler concerning line capacities.
  • Work with appropriate areas to resolve cost, quality, delivery, and material issues.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Learn to setup, run and troubleshoot production equipment.
  • Develop individuals including:
    • Assist with hiring/performance/pay for performance decisions.
    • Foster continuous improvement mentality.
    • Coach individuals towards self-direction, building strong relationships that foster trust and accountability.
  • Maintain and improve ISO 9001.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Two-year degree required.
  • Four-year technical degree preferred, with preference for education in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • 2-4 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Open to learning all aspects of manufacturing
  • Mature interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Open to development of key management skills in staffing, performance management and development
  • Conflict resolution

Working Conditions:

  • This position will spend equal amounts of time on the shop floor and in an office environment.
  • The majority of this position must be performed on site during normal business hours.
