Position:    Quality Assurance Technician
Shift:          7am-3:30pm
Location:   The Specialty Mfg. Co. – White Bear Lake, MN

Position Description:

• Quality assurance (QA) aims to ensure that the product or service an organization provides and meets both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations. The quality assurance technician supports the activities required to meet quality standards.
• Quality assurance technician performs in-process, final, first article and receiving inspections/audits using various measurement instruments and techniques. Develop and maintain inspection methods. Ensure that quality procedures and processes are being followed. Assist in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
• Nonexempt position that reports directly to Quality Lead or Production Manager

Duties and Responsibilities: (Not limited to the following)

• Carry out basic quality functions.
• Track, analyze and report on materials, processes and products.
• Ensure products and services meet SMC or customer’s quality standards.
• Inspects and audits products and services.
• Use variable and attribute data and measuring instruments and techniques.
• Ensure conformance with the SMC Quality Management Systems.
• Any other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Effective verbal and write communication skills.
• Understanding of ISO 9000 and other basic quality management system requirements.
• Basic computer skills.
• CMM or Vision systems a plus.
• CQT certification a plus.
• Blueprint reading.
• GD&T a plus.
• Strong knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Self-starter must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Works on shop floor in manufacturing environment with a diversified work group.
• Must be able to stand for up to two hours at a time.
• Work must be performed on site during normal SMC business hours.

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Has received direct training or has been performing Quality Technician activities for 2 years preferred.
